Behind the Mic

The Moment I Realized We Were Talking About the Same Thing.

One of my favorite things about hosting conversations is discovering what they're really about after they're over.

Sometimes I think we're talking about leadership.

Or habits.

Or business.

Or success.

And then somewhere in the middle of the conversation, a deeper theme quietly emerges.

That's exactly what happened with Justin Michael.

At first glance, we were talking about mindset, performance, coaching, and his book Rewriting the Law of Attraction.

But the longer we talked, the more I realized we were discussing something much simpler.

Control.

Or more accurately...our relationship with control.

Justin shared how much of his life was spent striving, pushing, and trying to manufacture specific outcomes. The next promotion. The next achievement. The next goal.

And honestly, I understood exactly what he meant.

Because I've done it too. Most high-achievers have.

We convince ourselves that if we just work harder, think harder, push harder, we'll finally arrive somewhere that feels like enough.

But what struck me most was what happened when Justin stopped focusing on the outcome and started focusing on the person he was becoming instead.

That shift changes everything. Because becoming is different than achieving.

Achieving asks:

"What can I get?"

Becoming asks:

"Who am I becoming in the process?"

And when you start asking that question, something interesting happens.

The pressure begins to ease. The journey starts to matter again. You stop measuring your worth by results alone.

As we wrap up The Becoming Series, I can't think of a better conversation to close with.

Because becoming was never about arriving.

It was always about paying attention.

And maybe that's what this entire series has been teaching us all along.

This Week's Episode

Stop Forcing It: The Shift from Control to Becoming

Justin Michael

A conversation about surrender, identity, self-trust, achievement, purpose, and what happens when we stop forcing outcomes and start becoming.

Behind the Mic Reflection

Where in your life are you measuring success by results alone?

And who might you become if you paid a little more attention to the journey?

Pam Dwyer

Awareness was never the destination.

It was the invitation.

Over the past several weeks, The Becoming Series has explored patterns, identity, resilience, healing, leadership, intuition, and the quiet moments that shape who we are becoming.

But awareness alone doesn't change a life.

Awareness is where the journey begins.

The real transformation happens when we start applying what we've discovered. When the insight becomes a choice. When the pause becomes a practice. When becoming turns into living.

That's where we're headed next.

And next week, we begin The Return.

Not a return to who you were.

A return to who you've been all along.
