Behind the Mic | What Stayed With Me After Talking with Wendy Kim
Sometimes the best conversation begins after the microphones are turned off.

Where the Conversation Continues
Every Thursday, I invite you into a conversation.
But what you don't hear...is what stays with me after we stop recording.
Sometimes it's a question. Sometimes it's a story. Sometimes it's one small insight that quietly follows me throughout the day.
That's why I created Behind the Mic.
Each Wednesday, I'll share one reflection from that week's conversation before the episode goes live.
Think of it as pulling up another chair after everyone else has gone home.
I'm glad you're here.

The Greatest Gift Someone Can Give
One thing I didn't expect after my conversation with Wendy Kim...
was that I'd spend the rest of the day thinking about one woman from my childhood.
Mrs. Kelley.
Wendy and I spent a lot of time talking about identity...
about the stories we believe...
and about how difficult it can be to see ourselves clearly.
After we finished recording...
I realized my own story had been quietly pointing me toward that truth all along.
When I was a little girl, Mrs. Kelley saw something in me long before I could see it in myself.
She reminded me that what was happening around me didn't determine who I was becoming.
Looking back now...
I think the greatest gift another person can give us isn't advice.
It's believing in us before we believe in ourselves.
That conversation reminded me that many of us are still living from stories we accepted years ago...
stories about our worth...
our abilities...
or what we think we're capable of becoming.
But maybe...
just maybe...
those stories aren't the whole truth.
A Question for You
As I closed my notebook after recording with Wendy...I found myself writing one simple question.
What story have you believed about yourself...that might no longer be true?
I'd love to hear your answer.
Just hit Reply.
I really do read every one.

Why identity quietly shapes every choice we make.
The power of curiosity over certainty.
How the stories we tell ourselves become the lives we live.
Why becoming often starts by letting go.

Until next time...
Thank you for pulling up a chair.
I'll meet you back here next Wednesday...
where the conversation continues.
