What If That Story Isn’t True Anymore?

A Moment with Pam
This week I caught myself thinking about something.
How often do we mistake familiarity for truth? Not because we’re wrong. Not because we’re stuck. But because sometimes we become so identified with one version of ourselves…we stop noticing we’ve outgrown it.
And maybe that’s what becoming really is. Not becoming someone else. But becoming curious enough to question whether the story still fits. That stayed with me after my conversation with Leslie Grandy.
Because what struck me wasn’t her career. It wasn’t Hollywood. It wasn’t innovation.
It was how many times she gave herself permission to become someone new without abandoning who she already was.
What I’m Noticing
One thing Leslie said stayed with me. There’s always more than one story. And I started wondering, How many of us are still living inside stories we never stopped to question?
I’m not creative. I’m too old. I missed my chance. This is just who I am. This is the safe choice. This is how it’s always been.
Leslie talked about curiosity as something much deeper than personality. Not curiosity for entertainment. Curiosity as a way of staying connected. Curiosity as an antidote to isolation.
That landed for me. Because what if curiosity isn’t asking: “How do I become someone else?” What if curiosity asks: What part of me have I stopped listening to?
And what if becoming starts there? Not force. Not reinvention.
Just one honest question.
The Pause
Before you keep going, pause here.
👉 What belief about yourself are you carrying… simply because it used to be true?
No fixing. No pressure. Just notice.
Because awareness creates options. And options create momentum.

Creativity Isn’t a Talent, It’s a Pattern You Unlock | Leslie Grandy
In this conversation, we explore:
• identity and reinvention
• why curiosity changes everything
• creativity beyond art
• how “what if” expands possibility
• and why becoming starts with questioning old stories
Stay in the Conversation
This week we explored becoming from two very different perspectives.
On Monday, we asked: When does motion stop feeling like momentum?
Today, we ask: What if the story isn’t true anymore?
And tomorrow inside Behind the Mic™, we’ll slow down and take a closer look at what stayed with me from this conversation, and what surprised me most after the microphones turned off.
Because this is how I hope these pieces work together:
The story helps you feel it.
Inside the Pause helps you notice it.
The conversation helps you understand it.
Because change rarely starts with trying harder. It usually starts with curiosity.
One pause at a time.
