Maybe You're Not Undisciplined

Yesterday I shared a story about my brief and unsuccessful attempt to become a compound bow hunter.

At the time, I thought the challenge was learning how to shoot.

Pull the string.
Release the arrow.
Hit the target.

Simple.

Except it wasn't.

The real challenge wasn't taking the shot.

It was everything required before I ever got the chance.

The heavy bow.
The endless practice.
The equipment.
The patience.
The endurance.
The early mornings.
The capacity.

That's what struck me as I listened back to this week's conversation with Lauren Callahan.

So many of us are walking through life believing we have a discipline problem when what we actually have is a capacity problem.

We know what to do.

We know we should move our bodies.
We know we should eat differently.
We know we should get more rest.
We know we should stop scrolling.
We know we should stop reacting.

Yet we don't.

Not because we don't care. Not because we're lazy. Not because we're broken. Because we're tired.

Quietly depleted people often mistake exhaustion for a character flaw. We assume everyone else has figured something out that we haven't. We tell ourselves we need more willpower. More motivation. More discipline.

But what if the problem isn't that you're unwilling?

What if you're simply carrying more than your current capacity can support?

Lauren shared something during our conversation that stayed with me:

“When women begin supporting their bodies differently, they often discover they can do more, not because they're pushing harder, but because they finally have the energy to do what matters”

That isn't discipline.

That's capacity.

And capacity changes everything.

Reflection Question

What are you currently calling a discipline problem that might actually be a depletion problem?

Sit with that question today.

You may discover you're being far harder on yourself than you deserve.

Tomorrow, Lauren and I will take this conversation even deeper as we explore why energy, clarity, and capacity often matter more than motivation.

Why You're Always Tired (It's Not Discipline)
with Lauren Callahan

Until then...

Pause.
Choose.
Build momentum.
Finish stronger.
