Inside the Pause | Monday Reflection
Before the Breakdown, There Are Signals.

For years, I thought exhaustion was just part of being responsible.
Part of being dependable.
Part of being a mother.
Part of building something meaningful.
Part of surviving.
So I pushed through.
Most high-functioning women do.
We normalize the headaches.
The brain fog.
The emotional eating.
The caffeine.
The disrupted sleep.
The snapping at people we love.
The constant feeling that we are somehow both overwhelmed and underperforming at the same time.
And eventually…we stop asking why. We just assume this is adulthood.
This week’s episode of The Becoming Series challenged that thinking in a powerful way.
My guest, Jessica Van Antoine, shared:
“The body is the system running everything.”
That hit me deeply. Because so many women spend their lives optimizing everything except themselves.
Their business.
Their family.
Their schedules.
Their responsibilities.
But not the one system carrying all of it. And eventually, the body starts sending signals.
Sometimes softly.
Sometimes loudly.
Sometimes through exhaustion.
Sometimes through anxiety.
Sometimes through cravings, emotional eating, overworking, irritability, numbness, or simply feeling disconnected from yourself.
What if those things are not failures? What if they are signals?
Jessica shared openly about the moment she physically broke underneath the pressure of years spent pushing through exhaustion and depletion.
And honestly…I think many women are closer to that moment than they realize. Especially the women who “look fine.” That’s why this week matters so much to me.
Because Delay the Binge™ has never just been about food.
It’s about learning how to pause long enough to notice what’s really happening underneath the urge, the exhaustion, the coping mechanism, or the pattern.
Not with shame.
Not with punishment.
But with awareness.
Because awareness changes everything.
It helps us recognize:
burnout before it becomes breakdown,
emotional exhaustion hidden beneath performance,
stress-driven habits,
unhealthy coping patterns,
leadership fatigue,
overwhelm masked as productivity,
and the quiet disconnection that happens when we spend years surviving instead of listening to ourselves.
And maybe the pause is not about weakness at all. Maybe it’s where healing begins.
THIS WEEK’S EPISODE:
Jessica Van Antoine
“What If Your Body Isn’t Betraying You… But Trying to Warn You?”
In this conversation, we explore:
why high-functioning women ignore physical signals,
emotional coping patterns,
sugar cravings and stress,
nervous system depletion,
gut health and the brain,
burnout prevention,
and how the body often whispers before it screams.
And tomorrow’s PJ Hamilton short story, “The Life She Built from Broken Things,”
reflects deeply on survival, motherhood, heartbreak, healing, and becoming.
It may be one of the most personal stories I’ve shared yet.
Because the truth is…many women who appear strong on the outside are quietly carrying decades of survival underneath. And maybe healing begins the moment we stop calling that strength.
